I’ve decided to start a new project for myself and my blog.  Starting today, I will post a photo of the week every Friday.  It could be something I’ve shot in the past or more recently during a wedding or session, or it might be something I just shot for fun one day.  I will include the story of the photo and sometimes may even give details of how I photographed it.

For the first Photo of the Week, I chose one of the many shots taken while at the wonderful In-Camera Workshop given by Gray Photography in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.  For those who need a refresher on that story, click here.

The In-Camera Workshop focuses on lighting and post-production with an emphasis on getting your shots right inside of the camera.  Zach and Jody Gray taught us their methods and let me tell you, what I’ve learned has saved me time and headaches!  I definitely recommend photographers attend their workshops.  Information can be found here.

The photograph I’m going to share was taken in an outside area near restaraunts and shops in Jacksonville.  It was raining and super windy, but our awesome model Lauren was still rockin it!  For those photographers out there, I used a light on a stand with a soft-box at a 45 degree angle in front of Lauren.  There was a speedlight standing on the ground behind her, giving that beautiful edge light and lighting her hair, which blew in the wind just at the right moment.  Yeah!!!

I’m so excited to be able to share some photos from my very first wedding of 2010!  Tom and Jessie are a awesome couple from Zimmerman who are friends of mine.  When they asked me to photograph their wedding, I couldn’t wait for the day to arrive.  You see, Tom and I went to Bemidji State together years ago and Jessie is the one of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet.  The combo of the two is perfect.  They had a beautiful wedding and I couldn’t be happier for them!  Congratulations Tom & Jessie!

I first headed to a home in Plymouth to get some shots of the ladies getting ready.  There were no boys aloud, except of course, for adorable Gabe, Tom and Jessies little guy 🙂

The wedding was held at the charming St. Joseph’s Little Church in Plymouth.  We were having a Minnesota heat wave at 30 degrees, so getting through the slush was a pain, but we managed to have a great time anyway!

The wedding party was comprised of a super fun group of young people ready to have a good time!

Check out the bottom shot in this series – Tom is head football coach in Zimmerman, so he got the guys organized in a football stance!

The ceremony took place at 5:00 pm, just after the sun had gone down.  Tom and Gabe waited at the front of the chuch while Jessie and her father, Dean, made their way down the isle.  It was perfect!

After the ceremony, we headed to the fabulous Wellstead of Rogers Crown Room.  They had it beautifully decorated and ready for the bride and groom to arrive.  The food was superb!  I had the bacon wrapped turkey, yum!!

Best man Dan and matron of honor Emily  gave amusing and heart felt speeches after dinner, followed by an emotional thank you from Tom.

After dessert, everyone got swinging to the music, provided by DJ Rickerd of Instant Request Disc Jockey Entertainment.  DJ did a fantastic job keeping the people on the dance floor.  Even I was able to break away and dance with my friends for a bit!

All in all, the night went better than perfect and a great time was had!  Congratulations Tom and Jessie!  I wish you nothing but the best!

WHEW!!!  It was a busy weekend for JenniferA Photography.  On Friday, I had the pleasure of photographing Tom & Jessie’s gorgeous wedding in Plymouth followed by their rockin reception in Rogers.  We had a blast and the day couldn’t have been more perfect!  Congratulations Tom & Jessie!  Photos of their wedding are coming VERY soon.

On Saturday, my relatives got together for our “Christmas party” (I know, a bit late – but that’s the only time everyone can make it!) at the beautiful Olive Branch Retreat near Melrose, MN.  It is an absolutely awesome retro getaway that I fell in love with.  My family had a great time visiting and eating (we LOVE eating!)  Look for family photos soon of the Christiansens at the Olive Branch.

Since it is a little slower this time of year for my photography business, being that there are feet of snow on the ground and it’s kinda chilly out, I have been able to substitute teach quite a bit, leading to the reason for this post.  My favorite days are when the kids do/say something you just can’t help but find humorous (you may remember the chicken incident).  It keeps me grounded 🙂

Sooooooooo, already in 2010, I have two stories:

1)  I was in a fifth grade classroom, where we were finishing up a novel they were studying.  One boy says, “Hey, we only have the apology left!”  Every head turned his way in confusion.

Another student sayes with a smile, “You mean the epilogue?”  The boy turned about 14 shades of red while he and the whole class were rolling with laughter.  All control was lost. . . .

2)  This is one of my favorites.  I was in a first grade classroom and we had just finished talking about ways to be healthy.  The kids were drawing their favorite meal on a paper plate and labeling each item.  A incredibly cute little guy in the sweetest little voice came up to me and asked, “Ms. M, how do you spell squid?”  I had to giggle.  He went on to tell me how when he and his family go to a certain restaurant, he orders squid.  Too funny!  A six year old in love with squid?!?

Happy Tuesday 🙂
