Lesson 14: Start improving the world one small act at a time.
“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait
a single moment before starting to improve the world.“
Yesterday I had the pleasure of photographing the Mission Banquet in an effort to raise money for Project Manuelito, which helps underprivileged children in Honduras. It took place at Dukes in Oakdale. There were tons of awesome items for bid in the silent auction as well as live music by Minnesota musician Tim Mahoney.
Tim was awesome at driving in the donations – he auctioned off a Rolling Stone Magazine featuring himself as well as several CD’s and even two custom written song recordings to the highest bidders!
He then got behind the bar and tried out the old bartender role with proceeds going to the benefit.
I quickly learned that I had some photo competition at the event – this cutie was snapping photos left and right!!
The benefit was a HUGE success and over $3000 was raised to take with to Honduras in March. These 3 lovely ladies, Angela Johnson, Emily Mize & Tena Pettis, along with others will be headed to Honduras in less that two weeks!! I’m so in awe of the selflessness they have to take such a trip to help others. Way to go ladies!!
If you were unable to make it, there is still time to make a donation!! Please contact Tena of Tena.cious ([email protected]) to contribute. Every little bit helps – what small steps have you taken lately to improve the world?
Ahhh, Wednesday – the middle of the week when you’re usually tired, unmotivated and would kill for a nap. I’m trying to overcome the humpday blues with editing. . .and lots of it! I’m diligently working on getting GLAM Shoot photos finished and hope to bring you a complete recap by early tomorrow.
Remember when you were a kid and show & tell at school was one of the most exciting parts of the day?!? I’ve decided to bring it back-adult style! Once a week, I’ll be sharing something I’ve discovered that may have inspired me, taught me something, or just plain entertained me. I hope you get a little joy out of it and feel free to comment!
For my first Show & Tell, I’d like to share a site I seek for inspiration. I like to check out what other photographers around the world are doing and Allister Ann always has something interesting to look at. I discovered her a few years ago when she posted a few videos featuring one of my favorite bands, Augustana. She is based in Nashville but travels the world, many times photographing singers and bands. She shoots a lot of film which is something I’m looking to get into more. I’ve posted a few of my favorite shots from her recent work so if you’re unmotivated at work and looking for an excuse to do something else, here you go!! Check out her site HERE.
I’ve had the craziest week this past 7 days – barely any time to edit the plethera of photos that I accumulated last weekend. However, I couldn’t help but scan through the amazing stuff captured at GLAM Shoot last Sunday and pick a favorite of each amazing lady that made it out. Here they are!! (I so can’t wait to share and tell more about the day, but like I said – CRAZY week – Gotta Go!!)
The gorgeous Addie.
The beautiful Amanda.
The stunning Chelsie.
The exotic Marisa 🙂
The lovely Martha. (In a dramatic pose!)
The charming Sarah. (I’m digging the cool tone and green snow!)
The adorable Molly.
And Nadja – I can’t begin to tell you how gorg this girl is and how she really should take up modeling – she was a natural!!
